Participants from across the globe are welcome to this poetry discussion and creative writing workshop hosted by the award-winning Chicago-based poet Maggie Queeny. Lovers of eco-poetry (or, poetry that explores nature, culture, and the environment), will enjoy a wide array of poems and guided creative writing sessions. Registration is required

 

Chicago Poet Laureate Celebration

Location: Hybrid, hosted by the Poetry Foundation

Join in-person or via live stream to celebrate Chicago’s Poet Laureate, avery r. young. In addition to his many publications, young is an arts educator, 3Arts Awardee, and the composer and librettist for a newly commissioned work from the Lyric Opera of Chicago titled safronia, according to the Chicago Laureate Program. At this celebration, he will perform alongside an impressive list of Chicago poets at the Harold Washington Library Center in the Pritzker Auditorium. 

 

Brooklyn Book Festival

Location: Hybrid

Dates: September 24th,–October 2nd

 

Brooklyn Book Festival boasts a variety of hybrid and in-person literary events. Free to the public, this event brings authors and readers together from across the globe and all around the borough. The Great Twin Cities Poetry Read

Location: In-person

Date: Saturday, October 7, 2:00,–5:00 PM CT

 

Created in partnership with Milkweed Books and PeoplesPoetryMN, this annual event will host over 30 local poets. Each poet will read for three minutes before passing the mic, making a marathon of this exciting lineup. The reading will take place at Milkweed Books, located on the first floor of Open Book. 

 

Latin América: A Spoken Word Play

Location: In-person

Dates: October 13,–15 8:00 PM

 

WestCoast poetry lovers will enjoy this exciting play presented by Alegria magazine. This spoken word play features 20 Latine/x Artists, poetas, and performers. Held at the iconic Hudson Theaters, guests can attend one of three 8 PM showtimes: Friday, October 13; Saturday, October 14; or Sunday, October 15.
